Obtaining[]

Talk to Diabworktik at [-1,22] at the end of the quest Trick or Treat.

Dialog

Back again, finally! Did you find nightmarish sweets?

Offer the sweets.

Hallucinogenic candy kebabs? That's not all what I asked for! If you thought you could make fun of me without suffering the consequences, you have another thing coming!

Say that a Disciple of Asid suggested them.

What?! You dare talk back to ME?! A curse upon you!

Turn around and flinch.

I'll take them all the same, just to tide me over until you get back. But watch out. If you don't bring me my nightmarish sweets very soon, you'll end up in that state much sooner than planned. You can go and tell that disciple that he's useless and doesn't even know how to please his Master.

Leave trembling.

Step 1: A Pumpkwin for Al Howin[]

Diabworktik has cursed you! You are looking for information on nightmarish sweets, the Meridia Asid's favourites. Rumour has it that Al Howin was once close to him and might be able to tell you more.
He is located at [-1,22] inside the Al Howin's Vegetable Patch's entrance.
Dialog

Mortal! Are you not afraid of entering this gloomy grove, knowing that Al Howin's curse is stronger than ever and that behind me lies the entrance to his very Vegetable Patch?! Why, the Evil Forect is just swarming with Cursed Pumpkwin Seeds, which can be used to craft the key! Does that not terrify you?

Asid, the Meridia of Fear, would admire your audacity. What can I do for you?

Complain about his bad advice, and tell him about your conversation with Diabworktik.

True, I did say Asid loved all sweets. If that Diabworktik knows so much about it, he should just tell you where to find the dratted sweets. Asid loves a fright above all, and that's what I give him every time I run into someone!

Apologise and ask if he knows of someone else who could tell you what you want to know.

Behind me is the dark Al Howin's Vegetable Patch. That gloomy farmer made the mistake of using magic to win a stupid contest. The cheating caused the curse that strikes the Amaknian continent every year. Once glorified, Al Howin is not feared by all.

Ask what the connection is between Al Howin and nightmarish sweets.

The connection? Ha hah ha! Mortals fascinate me with their ignorance. They say that Al Howin didn't learn magic from just anyone, you see. They say his teacher was closer than close with Asid himself. Why do you think I'm guarding a field full of gourds, if not to learn more about my Master? If Asid does really have something to do with the nightmarish sweets, then Al Howin should be able to answer your questions. Are you brave enough to face the creatures in his vegetable patch to find him?

Enter the dungeon by speaking with Disciple of Asid. Complete the first four rooms of the Al Howin's Vegetable Patch to arrive at the Vegetable Patch room located before the 5th room.

Talk to Al Howin (NPC) at the Vegetable Patch room of the dungeon located between the 4th and the 5th rooms.

Dialog

My Devhorror! You killed it! It was the masterpiece of my sinister art! The combined fruit of my work, my entrails and my hard work!
It took me years to prepare my revenge, my return my triumph... I spent years exploring the depths of the mysteries of Bwork Magic... Years that have just been stolen!

Ask for information about nightmarish sweets.

Ha ha ha, don't you have anything in that Pumpkwin brain of yours? You think I'm going to answer you after what you did to my Devhorror!?
You idiot! You'd have been better off never appearing before me! Get ready for me to use you as fertiliser!

Attack Al Howin.

Talk to Al Howin (NPC) at the Exit room of the Al Howin's Vegetable Patch. Note that you will exit the dungeon immediately after finishing the dialogue and updating the quest.

Dialog

Blasted adventurers! They've wrecked everything of mine yet again.

Ask for information about nightmarish sweets.

Are you still here!? Destroying everything in your path wasn't enough for you? Look at the state of my vegetable patch. Get out of here before I tear out your eyes and feed them to my creatures.

Promise to leave once you have the information.

I don't like sweets, and what I like even less are persistent people of your kind who make me lose my patience. Since you don't seem to understand that I'm busy repairing everything of mine that you've destroyed, here's the deal: go and find a cursed Pumpkwin for me, and in exchange, I'll see what I can do for you.

Ask how to get one.

Take these seeds and plant them in the Evil Forest. Even a bungler like you should be able to do that. During Pumpkwin season, it only takes a few seconds for them to grow. But be careful: they flee anyone and anything that isn't a Pumpkwin for fear of ending their existence as a lantern, especially during this time of year. You should therefore find a way to dupe them so you can get close.

Leave to plant the seeds.

You will receive 1 Cursed Pumpkwin Seeds.

For the following steps you will need a Pumpkwin Head hat (not consumed). Speak with Lanseuft of Troille at [-2,14] in order to enter the Evil Forest.

Dialog

Behind these trees is a worrying maze of plants, and I'm its guardian. Many an adventurer has entered this labyrinth, but few have come back out. The Evil Forest is home to horrible creatures, and haunted by the unfortunate souls who lost their lives in it. It's best to have some battle experience before setting foot in it...

Ask to enter the labyrinth.

Very well. You seem determined to die. It's your choice, whether you like the consequences or not. The price of passage is a Bwork Archer scalp. Those green skins are the main component in a ritual that allows me to stay here day after day without succumbing to insanity and death.

Explain that you were hoping to pick up some Cursed Pumpkwin Seeds.

Aaaah, well that changes everything! I don't know why anybody would want these cursed seeds, but if it means there'll be fewer Pumpkwins escaping from the maze ready to take my face off and transform me into a monster, it'll be me paying you!

Politely refuse the smelly scalps he's holding out, and enter.

Follow the map through the Evil Forest to find the Pumpkwin Patch at [-5,16].

A Pumpkwin for Al Howin Evil Forest Path

Pumpkwin Patch Map

Double-click on the Cursed Pumpkwin Seeds in your inventory at the Pumpkwin Patch map at [-5,16]. You will lose 1 Cursed Pumpkwin Seeds.

You must equip a Pumpkwin Head for the attack dialogue option to appear. Choose the attack option to update the quest.

Dialog

Grrr.

Step back.
Attack the Cursed Pumpkwin. (Only with a Pumpkwin Head equipped.)

You will immediately start a fight against 3 Cursed Pumpkwins.

Other players can join the fight. Note that having a Pumpkwin Head equipped is not necessary for the fight itself.

Fight: Cursed Pumpkwin

You will drop 1 Cursed Pumpkwin (quest item).

You do not need to do Al Howin's Vegetable Patch dungeon again. Return to [-1,22] and speak with Disciple of Asid to get to the Exit room of the dungeon where Al Howin is found.

Dialog

Mortal! Are you not afraid of entering this gloomy grove, knowing that Al Howin's curse is stronger than ever and that behind me lies the entrance to his very Vegetable Patch?! Why, the Evil Forest is just swarming with Cursed Pumpkwin Seeds, which can be used to craft the key! Does that not terrify you?

Asid, the Meridia of Fear, would admire your audacity. What can I do for you?

Go to Al Howin to deliver the cursed Pumpkwin.

Talk to Al Howin. Note that you will exit the dungeon immediately after finishing the dialogue and updating the quest.

Dialog

Blasted adventurers! They've wrecked everything of mine yet again.

Call out to him.

You're back already? I hope for your sake that you haven't come empty handed.

Hand over the Cursed Pumpkwin and remind him of your deal.

You just don't give up! I'll give you some advice, but I don't want to see you getting in my way again after that. I've never heard of nightmarish sweets. Instead of wasting your time looking for them, find someone who will get rid of your curse.

Threaten to take another tour through his vegetable patch if he doesn't give you more information.

Whoa! Take it easy! Open your lugholes wide: you reek of Bwork magic, so I conclude that whoever stuck this curse on you is one of them. All you need to do is head to the Bwork Village and find a mage who has time for you. Now get out of my sight: my patience is wearing thin.

Leave.

You will lose 1 Cursed Pumpkwin (quest item).

  • Find a Bwork mage

Speak with Bworknroll at [-5,10] in the Bwork Village inside the Bwork Dungeon entrance cave (bottom-left room).

Dialog

Alone, I'm desperately alone among bullies and bully hunters.

Say that you are looking for a Bwork mage.
(Ends the current quest.)

I am the greatest of all Bwork mages, my talent has no limits, and there is nothing I cannot do. Say, did you know that you've got a ghost stalking you?

Explain your problem.

From what you're telling me, I'd say that you've been cursed by a second-rate Bwork who claims to be a mage. I have a ritual in mind involving Bwork beer of my brewing that could certainly rid you of that curse, but I'll need a few ingredients to adapt it so it works in Pumpkwin season. I need beer, enough to fill a barrel. I'll also need a few magic blood orange dyes and, most importantly, samples from creatures contaminated by Al Howin's curse.

Set off to find the ingredients.

The present quest ends and the quest Beer Ritual automatically begins.

Al Howin with Pumpkwin

The pumpkwins are said to be afraid of being carved into jack-o'-lanterns, yet that is ironically what they already resemble.
