Altar of the North is a quest.

Obtaining[]

Talk to Meriana in her house at [-6,-3] in the Nauseating Swamps.
Dialog

Have you ever asked yourself why magicians live deep in swamps, or in towers perched precariously at the summit of mountainous peaks? Magic requires a very particular kind of concentration... and crowded cities like Astrub can be... well, distracting.

Show the Totem of the East.

I was afraid Badmorva wouldn't cooperate... I hope she didn't demand too much of you.
Now then, if you are ready to unearth the next totem, the Totem of the North, you'll need Mama Ayuto's sign. Ayuto's a friend, so she'll be happy to give you her Mark.

Keep listening.

As for the Altar of the North, I should think it would lie on Frigost... The god Thomahon likes the cold, and Frigost is nothing if not that. You'll have need of his blessing if you're to find the place where the totem lies buried.

Leave for the Imp Village.

Step 1: Altar of the North[]

You've just gotten over the hardships of dealing with the Frigostian climate when Meriana announces that you'll have to go back! The life of a hero is never easy... Maybe you can take advantage of your passage through the Imp Village to take a break? Doubtful...
Up the ladder. You'll find Drillbit on the spot where you expect Mama Ayuto to be; talk to her.
Dialog

Hi! You looking for Mama Ayuto? She must have popped out. She told me to tell you she'd be back again soon with her Mark.

Thank her for warning you.

Uh, do you know how to keep a secret? I want to show you something that is so cool, but promise you won't tell Mama Ayuto!

Say you'll be as silent as the grave.

Climb down the ladder and join me in my workshop.

Head towards the ladder.
Go down the ladder behind the boxes, then enter the red hut.
Dialog

Since I won that Queen of Handymen contest, I have the right to a workshop of my own. It's boss! If you're a handyman too and you ever need to use my workbench, just go right ahead!

Ask her what she was so keen to show you.

I'm in the middle of building a robot that will blow your mind and change the world! It'll be 93.6% more hard-wearing than older models of robot. When it's ready, I'm gonna do a demonstration for Mama Ayuto. She will be so proud of me, you'll see! I want it to be a surprise though, so that's why you have to keep schtum.

Congratulate her on her work.

The robot's still missing a vital component for it to run – a Cerebromotor! I can't make it myself, I haven't got all the parts I need. That's why I sent my buddy Nobir to pick it up from Fidji Merline in Brakmar.

Keep listening.

Nobir was supposed to do an exchange, the Cerebromotor for some mechanical toys, but I haven't heard from him. He should have come back this morning. I hope nothing's happened to him... but I can't stop thinking about it! You're a crazily good adventurer! Surely you'll go to Brakmar for me and try and find Nobir? I'm not allowed to leave the village on my own without asking Mama's permission, and she's not here.

Accept.

Refuse.

Oy, you aren't scared, are you?

Say that nothing scares you and agree to go to Brakmar.

Awesome! Go and see Fidji Merline, whose workshop is in the Handymen's Quarter. She's got to have seen Nobir!

Leave for Brakmar.
  • Find the map: Brakmar Handyman's Workshop  [-29,36]
Dialog

Hello (your name). I'm Liroye Merline, Fidji Merline's sister and one of the most famous handywomen on the continent. My family has been doing things itself for generations now. Recently my sister and I decided to set up a business with branches in rival cities to make sure that everyone has access to our knowledge and experience.

Ask if she's spoken to Nobir recently.

The Imp? I haven't seen him for weeks. Why, is he in trouble or something?

Reply that Nobir was supposed to meet her to exchange a Cerebromotor for some mechanical toys.

Oh yes, actually, I remember Drillbit telling me something about that order. The Cerebromotor is finally ready... I heard there was a really strong storm yesterday along the Howling Heights. Nobir's using an Imp Carrier to travel; perhaps he found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time...

Thank her for the information and head for the Howling Heights.
At [-27,-3] in the Howling Heights.
  • Talk to Nobir  [-27,-3]
Dialog

I hate the unexpected... If I'd known, I would have stayed in the village!

Ask what happened.

I was flying south on my carrier when I suddenly found myself caught up in a storm! I managed to avoid the worst of it and was forced into a crash-landing, but I lost some of my cargo.

Point out that the most important thing is that he's not wounded.

Yes, yes, for sure... I concealed the carrier behind the trees, so I could repair it without being disturbed by Boowolves. Before I leave, I would really like to get my hands on those cursed Miniature Automatons. I've recovered a few of them, but four are still missing. Drillbit will blow her top!

Say that Drillbit sent you and offer to help.

Ah, well, I wouldn't say no! The robots look like the one next to me. If you spot one, all you need to is turn its key and it'll follow at your heels like a Bow Wow. Bring it here, and I'll make sure it goes back in its box. Don't try and guide several robots at once, because they're likely to stop following you and then trundle off into the undergrowth.

Go and track down the four miniature robots.
At each of the 4 positions in the Howling Heights, talk to Miniature Automaton to receive the Miniature Robot following character, then return to Nobir and talk to him to update the quest.
You can turn in the four automata in any order, but they must be turned in one by one.
  • Bring the first automaton to Nobir  [-27,-3]
Located at [-26,0].
  • Bring the second automaton to Nobir  [-27,-3]
Located at [-24,-1].
  • Bring the third automaton to Nobir  [-27,-3]
Located at [-22,-4].
  • Bring the fourth automaton to Nobir  [-27,-3]

Located at [-25,-6].

  • Talk to Nobir  [-27,-3]
Dialog

I hate the unexpected... If I'd known, I would have stayed in the village!

Hand over the robot.

Thank you! I'll put it away immediately so it can't escape again!

Say that you've got back all four robots.

Yep, they're all accounted for! Thank you again for your help. I reckon I wouldn't have spotted them all even if I'd spent several days camped out here. I'm better at darts than games of hide-and-seek...

Mention that the problem's been solved.

If I had the nerve, I'd ask you one last favour... I still need to repair the carrier so that it can take off again. It's gonna take me a while, and Fidji's waiting for her delivery. Could you deliver the robots to her and pick up the item Drillbit sent me for?

Reply that you're the right one for this job.

You're a lifesaver! Here are the boxes with the robots. Give them to Fidji in exchange for the Cerebromotor.

Set off for Brakmar again.
You receive 1 Box of Robots.
Inside the Handymen's Workshop.
Dialog
Announce that you have the robots sent by Drillbit.

I gather you found our Nobir then... I hope he's alright. He is the only Imp to show up here from time to time. I truly appreciate how talented these young handymen can be, you wouldn't believe the remarkable quality of the items they cook up.
One Cerebromotor as ordered! Watch it, it's fragile.

Thank her and leave.
You lose 1 Box of Robots and receive 1 Cerebromotor.
Up the ladder on the ground, then down the ladder behind the boxes, inside the red tent.
Dialog

Since I won that Queen of Handymen contest, I have the right to a workshop of my own. It's boss! If you're a handyman too and you ever need to use my workbench, just go right ahead!

Hand over the Cerebromotor.

Did you get it? Sweet! Nobir got back just before you, he told me everything. We owe you one!

Mention nonchalantly that you've already completed much more dangerous missions.

*opens a hatch at the back of the robot's head and sticks the Cerebromotor inside* It's your lucky day, you get to see me switch on my prototype!

Notice that the robot is blinking.

Robot, go get me some sweets! *looks at the robot, who starts marching towards the sweets jar, then turns around and stares at Drillbit with a nasty look in its eyes* Arrgh, we seem to have run into a little glitch, nothing to worry about, uh... Robot, stop right there!

Intervene between the robot and Drillbit with the help of the old robot. (starts a fight)

  • Defeat 1 Experimental Robot in a single fight  [-19,-23]
A fight starts against 1 Lvl. 160 Experimental Robot with 8,400 HP. A Lvl. 160 Imp Automaton joins on your side. Other characters and Sidekicks can join the fight, but will not update their quests unless they've started the fight themselves and died.
Dialog

Since I won that Queen of Handymen contest, I have the right to a workshop of my own. It's boss! If you're a handyman too and you ever need to use my workbench, just go right ahead!

Say that, regrettably, you had to destroy the experimental robot.

I don't understand what's got into it... I'm sure I followed the instruction manual properly!

Ask her how on earth she got hold of the instruction manual.

It was a handyman from Frigost who sent it to me. He's called Lysargh. I don't know him, but he said in his letter that he was famous for his inventions and he was the best and most well-known handyman on the frozen isle.

Tell her she's clearly been duped by that frightful Sylargh.

Hmph... It's a good job you and my old robot were there! I'm going to have to tell Mama Ayuto I messed up, aren't I... she's just come back. I hope she won't ground me for too long...

Say you'll be happy to stand up for Drillbit if needed and go see Mama Ayuto.
Leave the hut and go up the ladder to find Mama Ayuto in her usual spot.
Dialog

The Imps are safe, so long as I watch over them. If someone starts trouble with them, that someone will have to answer to me!

Say you'll be needing her once again.

Hello, (your name). I understand you were not idle during my absence...

Admit you helped Drillbit sort out a mechanical issue.

The most important thing is that everybody is alright. *gives you a shining disk*. Here is my Mark. I hope you will make good use of it.

Take Ayuto's Mark.

Now all that's left is for you to find the altar of Thomahon in order to receive his blessing. If I were you, I would look on the north side of Frigost...

Thank her and leave.
You receive 1 Ayuto's Mark.
  • Find the northern altar
At [-69,-88] in the Tears of Ouronigride.
  • Get Thomahon's blessing  [-69,-88]
You must finish the quest Thomahon's Blessing to complete this step.
You will receive 1 'Thomahon's Blessing'.
The place where the Totem of the North is buried appears clearly in your mind.
  • Unearth the North Totem  [-13,-62]
Click the skeleton at [-13,-62] in The Crow's Domain with the Terra Clan Shovel equipped.
You receive 1 'Totem of the North'.
