Obtaining[]

Talk to Hel Munster at [-5, -13] after completing After Him, the Flood.
Dialog

You've no doubt heard of the Ancestral Treechnid... If anyone could help you, it's him. Assuming he isn't suffering from grandiose delusions! Just be careful. He is the oldest magician in the forest. Over countless seasons, his sanity has eroded somewhat.

Promise you will watch your back.

I suspect it's worth the effort so I want to make it easier for you. Go to Kikat Trunky and tell him I sent you. He'll have a shortcut for you.

Say thank you and head for the Ancestral Domain.

Step 1: Crobak on a Wire[]

The famous magician Hel Munster has advised you to go and see the Ancestral Treechnid to acquire some enchanted amber. The old tree has been haunting the dark forest for centuries, so it's probably got plenty of tricks in store.
  • Find the map: Ancestral Treechnid's Clearing  [-9, -14]
This is the map after the boss fight in the Ancestral Domain dungeon.
You can either complete the dungeon, or simply speak to the NPC at the entrance, Kikat Trunky, and choose the option "Ask Kikid to take you directly to the Treechnid."
  • Interrupt the Ancestral Treechnid's ritual by roughing up the servants  [-9, -14]
Speak to the Ancestral Treechnid (or one of the Treechnid NPCs around him).
Dialog

*mutters incantations while ignoring you*

Realise that the Treechnid is performing a ritual and try to get his attention.

*ignores you completely*

Decide to shake this old branch a bit. (starts a fight)

The Ancestral Treechnid's servants step in to intervene!
A fight starts against 1 Protective Treechnid (Lvl. 90, 1700 HP, a renamed Dark Treechnid with 0% resists and a shield spell) and 2 Zealous Treechnee (Lvl. 90, 1500 HP, renamed Dark Treechnees with 0% resists). Other characters and Sidekicks cannot join.
  • Haggle with the oldest magician in the forest  [-9, -14]
Talk to the Ancestral Treechnid again. Choose the "Lure him with the promise of a Dofus." option when you get a choice to progress.
Dialog

Despite living in an impenetrable forest, I never get a moment's peace... If this keeps up, I'm putting down roots elsewhere!

Apologise for having interrupted his incantations.

You roughed up my servants and now I'll have to hire new ones. You think they grow on trees? Well, actually, they do – but that's no excuse.

Lament the fact that his lackeys are pushing up daisies and say you're in need of his magical talents.

Hmph. What do you want? A fertile stiffness potion? A curse against your parents for what they put you through as a child? A mossy rot spell cast on your ex? A ring of dried mushrooms?

Say you want to procure a piece of enchanted amber.

Is that all? Why not a Primordial Dofus while you're at it? And one ring to rule them all!
In my day, adventurers were humbler. But then, they didn't want for anything, and harmony was in abundance.

Realise why this Treechnid is called ancestral.

But enough nostalgia! Suppose I agree to help you out... Everyone knows magic has a price...

Don't argue against that obvious fact.

... What can you offer me?

Suggest paying in gold and show 1,000 kamas. (You lose 1,000 Kamas).

.. And what would I do with that money? I could make it disappear, like so! *blinks* Or transmute it into something more useful, like acorns or hazelnuts... but that would be a waste of time and energy.

Suggest something else.

Promise to lift the curse that transformed him into a Treechnid. (you receive a debuff of -1 AP, -1 MP, and -5 Range for 1 fight)

Oh... I doubt you'd be able to. You seem like the type to attract curses rather than repel them.

Suggest something else.

Lure him with the promise of a Dofus.

Are you trying to pawn off some thing laid by a dragoturkey? I smell a scam... But that does give me an idea.

Ask what he has in mind.

Rac stole something precious from me. Get it back for me and I'll show you how to create what you seek.
You'll need amber, of course. Several types of amber from Treechnids, and in sufficient amounts. Plus Metarias of the correct element, which will need to be enchanted with timber substrate. We'll look into that later.

Find out more about the stolen treasure.

The object is darker than an arachnee. That's all you need to know.

Accept the deal.
  • Recover the treasure stolen by the Rac Queen  [-6, -15]
Complete the Lair of the Rac Queen dungeon. You will drop 1 Black Egg from the boss fight (souls do not work).
Talk to Kikat Trunky at the entrance of the Ancestral Domain to enter the clearing. Then talk to Ancestral Treechnid again.
Dialog

*extends an eager branch toward you*
Yes! Give it to me and I'll take you to a place where you can get enchanted amber.

Hesitate but eventually hand over the egg to the Treechnid. (you are teleported to a secret map)

*stays quiet as the crobaks in the branches become agitated*

Wait for him to honour his part of the deal.

Huh? Oh, right, the enchanted amber.
*plucks a feather from one of the birds*
Sorry, Nughin. Or Numnin, I can't remember.

Watch the Treechnid place a black feather in the hollow trunk.

This will fuel the fire of the sylvan athanor.
*utters a phrase evoking the mysteries shrouding a lost forest*

Feel the heat emanating from the stump.

... It's up to you to place the necessary materials. If you haven't collected everything yet, focus on the athanor and it will reveal what you need.
Once you have a piece of enchanted amber, bring it to me so I can stop its magic from fading away.

Follow the instructions.
You lose 1 Black Egg.
Click on the glowing stump to the right to access the Sylvan Athanor crafting station.
Craft 1 Enchanted Amber. Recipe:
You may need to add the ingredients manually.
If you don't have all the ingredients, you can leave by talking to the Ancestral Treechnid, then return by talking to him again in the clearing at the end of the Ancestral Domain (reached by talking to Kikat Trunky).
Dialog

*stays quiet as the crobaks in the branches become agitated*

Show what you obtained from the athanor.

*examines the piece of amber with caution*
Hmmm... I get the sense that something's off... Let me take a closer look.

Give the item to the Treechnid.

*grips the enchanted amber in his woody fingers*
HA HA HA! The ancient woods' power is mine!

Get the unpleasant feeling that the old sorcerer has tricked you.

*speaks to the five black birds*
Make yourselves useful, crobaks! Get rid of this naive idiot for me!

Defend yourself against the imminent attack. (starts a fight)

You lose 1 Enchanted Amber.
  • Defeat the ancestral crobaks  [-9, -14]
A fight starts against 5 Lvl. 90 Ancestral Crobaks with 1100 HP. They each deal about 200 damage per turn and can unbewitch you.
Other characters and Sidekicks cannot join the fight.
  • Insist until the Ancestral Treechnid keeps his promise  [-9, -14]
Dialog

*looks at you with equal parts hatred and fear*

Roll up your sleeves to cut him down to size.

Calm down, calm down! ...Sorry, I caved. I can't help it. When I see an opportunity, it's hard to resist. I'd betray my own parents for a little more power! And that's exactly what I did. I know it's wrong, but what do you expect? We can't go against our nature.

Say that his fondness for betrayal will bring about his ruin.

Ahem, no doubt, no doubt... No hard feelings? You're free to leave – I won't cause you any more trouble.

Ask if he's forgetting something.

Er, what's that? Oh, I suppose you're looking for the way out? Kikat should be able to help you.

Start to lose patience.

*buries his roots deep to avoid succumbing to your blows, then stands still as the crobaks bat their wings and squawk*
Huh? Caw?
... Hand over the amber? Okay, okay, no need to shout!

Hear a sound like a gust of wind rising amidst all the cawing.

*holds out the much-coveted piece*

Take the item before the Treechnid changes his mind.
You receive 1 Enchanted Amber.
  • Use the ochre ring's power to purify the enchanted amber
Equip the Ochre Ring again in one of your ring slots, then double-click the Enchanted Amber in your quest inventory.
You lose 1 Enchanted Amber and receive 1 Purified Brown Amber.
  • Let the voice of the Dark Forest guide you
Leave the dungeon by talking to Kikat Trunky.
Dialog

Well done! You just defeated the Ancestral Treechnid quicker than he could rub the gunge out of his sleepy eyes! I'm sure that you'll be shouting it from Amakna's rooftops before the end of the day... Fortunately, the curse on the Treechnid Forest seems to have spared you. Come back soon to kick his butt again.

Leave the Ancestral Domain.
A deep voice borne on the wind calls you to the heart of the Dark Forest.
  • Go see Silvosse  [-11, -13]
Dialog

This forest existed long before the Twelvians arrived, and will continue long after they've gone.

Recognise the voice and realise that the wind has become a messenger for Silvosse.

Greetings, friend of Otomai. I know what has brought you here, and I wanted to make sure everything went smoothly.

Say you have had a spot of trouble with the Ancestral Treechnid but that everything worked out in the end.

The old magician was already twisted back when he still had blood, and not sap, in his veins. But he's not that bad... Unlike the evil that's awoken in the Evil Forest.

Ask if he knows anything about your enemy.

Not really... Those events occurred long before I became the Protector of Flovor. I had the privilege of conversing with Terrakourial when my workload was light enough for me to leave the world in my sleep. Death is not an insurmountable hedgerow with brambles for beings like him. He's still rather cryptic about his past. He's even more secretive than me, which is saying a lot.

Keep listening.

Whatever evil is trapped in the woods, it has certain immortals worried. Hecate seems more nervous than usual. The Foresters of Amakna have stepped up their patrols at the request of the Cra priests. The goddess of the hunt turns her gaze on us... I don't like it. When the Powers get involved, Nature tends to pay the price.

Hope that that's not the case.
Continue speaking to Silvosse to begin the quest Take Root.
