Lantern Festival is a quest.

Story[]

A lantern festival in honour of the Fire Spirit is supposed to be happening soon but the Firefoux in the area are sabotaging the preparations. The Fire Spirit might wreak vengeance on Pandawas if the festival isn't held properly. Will-o-the-Wisps have already begun attacking Pandawas, signifying the Fire Spirit's impatience. The Fire Spirit also only shows himself in his true form during the festival, which would be a perfect opportunity for us to get the Fire Claw. We should talk to the guard in front of the Gate of Sparks and see how we can help.

Obtaining[]

Talk to Daimya Hikomi at [22,-29] in Pandala Village.
Dialog

You must be eager to rest at the inn... Or are vou planning on headina straight out for another claw, perhaps the Fire Claw?

Say that you're eager to leave for Feudala.

The Fire Spirit is said to be the most unpredictable of all... He clearly has a very high opinion of himself and places great importance on the rituals and festivals we hold in his honour. A monastic order called the "Order of the Lantern" is even devoted to this task to ensure that the spirit is satisfied. However... I must admit that the situation in Feudala is greatly worrying.

Ask what's wrong

The lantern festival that is supposed to be happening has been threatened by the Firefoux in the area sabotaging the preparations. I am afraid that the Fire Spirit may wreak vengeance on my people if we aren't able to hold the festival properly.

Ask what makes her think that.

Will-o-the-Wisps have already started attacking Pandawas - a clear sign of his impatience. What is more, he only shows himself in his true form during this festival, and it would be the occasion to get the second-to-last elemental claw that you need.

Agree to help and ask where to start.

Talk to the guard posted before the Gate of Sparks. He has already been informed of the situation and should be able to guide you better than I can. I still have so many matters to attend to... I shall count on you to carry on!

Thank the Daimya for trusting you and head out for Feudala.

Step 1: Lantern Festival[]

  • Ask the Feudala guard for a report on the situation
Dialog
Ask for a report on the situation.

What a disaster! The preparations for the festival were almost done when those Firefoux vandals reduced all our efforts to nothing. By the time the Feudalans alerted us, it was already too late and those nasty beasts had already taken over the Fouxwork Factory.

Ask what she expects of you.

First, Ozulan, the monk from the Order of the Lantern, wishes to meet you. He stipulated that you must comply with Feudala traditions so as to avoid upsetting the Fire Spirit. I'm sorry, but those are the orders. I cannot let you pass if you are not in compliance.

Ask the guard about the tradition.

opens eyes very wide The Daimya didn't tell you? She must be very busy... You're currently standing in front of the Gate of Sparks. It is here that visitors make their own lanterns to honour the great Fire Spirit.

Keep listening.

Anyone entering these lands must tend the flame in their lantern. Be careful. If by misfortune it were to go out, that would mean that the Fire Spirit wants you to leave Feudala.

Ask where to take the lantern.

Your ritual walk will start at this gate. The first stop is the primordial lantern. To get there, follow the lighted path. According to our beliefs, it was the great Fire Spirit who made it himself in one night.

Ask what you need to do once you're there.

Pray to the spirit, of course! Some chosen ones are lucky enough to see signs of the spirit during this ritual, but don't be too disappointed if nothing happens. Those who have seen the Fire Spirit are very few in number. After that, you will head to the lantern temple and place yours there. Ozulan is waiting for you there.

Ask the guard how to make a lantern.

Here's the paper needed to make your lantern – and not just any paper. It's a special rice paper made using an ancient technique in our workshop in Feudala. You'll need to assemble a frame for your lantern out of bamboo wood and then decorate it with ink.

Admit that you don't know where to find those elements.

You should find what you need at the alchemy workshop or on site where the lumberjacks are working. Tell them that the Daimya sent you and everything should be fine. Come back and see me when you have your lantern. I'll light it and let you pass.

Thank the guard for the information.

Story: The Feudala guard tells us that we must comply with traditions before we can meet with Ozulan, the monk from the Order of the Lantern. For this tradition we must make a ceremonial lantern and tend to its flame ourselves. Before showing Ozulan our lantern we must also pray to the Fire Spirit too.
  • Make a ceremonial lantern
For the first ingredient, you first need to enter the alchemist workshop at [23,-29] (see image above) and talk to Phang. She will give you the Black ink.
Dialog
Say that the Daimya sent you and ask for ink for your lantern.

Ah, do you mean for calligraphy patterns? For that, we use black pigment that we get by crushing specific plants and burning them. I've got a large supply. Here's a bottle and the paintbrush that goes with it. Give my greetings to our Daimya!

Say thank you and take the ink.
For the second ingredient, you will need to talk to Takeono at [24,-29]. He will give you the Supple Bamboo Wood.
Dialog
Say that the Daimya sent you and ask for the materials to make a bamboo frame.

You want to make a lantern, is that it? If so, I have exactly what you need. I received a bundle of freshly cut bamboo this morning. That's crucial to give the wood enough flexibility for the frame.

Keep listening.

If you use bamboo harvested a few days ago, it'll break when you try to shape it. I'll give you what you need, but only if you have a little something for me. It's related to the events in Plantala...

Suppress a sigh.

Ha haha! I was joking, friend! You should see your face... If the Daimya sent you, I'll give you the bamboo gladly. Still, be careful when you go to Feudala – the region isn't as safe as it was before...

Say thank you and leave.

Now return to [18,-30] and head inside. Click the workbench to instantly make the lantern.

After struggling desperately for several minutes, you manage to give your bamboo frame an almost reasonable shape. You cover it with paper and then scribble odd signs you've seen around Pandala on it. Unsurprisingly, the results are equal to your experience in this area: relatively mediocre.

Dialog
Show your lantern to the guard.

Oh... that's... original! Never mind. Just let me light it for you. Hold it carefully... *inserts a glowing stick into your lantern to light a flame inside it* There! This flame represents your offering, but it is also a reflection of your own inner flame, your soul if you will.

Admit that you don't really understand.

The Fire Spirit is able to judge the hearts of Twelvians who enter his territory by the way their flames shine and light up their path. Take the time to think about your past and future actions as you walk towards the primordial lantern... And be careful that yours doesn't go out!

Promise to be careful.

Now all that's left is to wish you good luck. I hope that the Daimya was right to trust you, and that you'll be able to spare us from the wrath of the Fire Spirit!

Say good day to the guard and begin your ritual walk.
  • Pay homage to the Fire Spirit in front of the primordial lantern
Click on the big lantern.
This will start a solo fight against four level 140 Will-o'-the-Wisps. This is a solo fight. Nothing too tough about this fight. However, hitting monsters with chance moves buffs their power and allows them to teleport, dealing damage in an area where they land)
Dialog

Hahaha! We certainly wouldn't want to pour fuel on the fire but... do you really intend to honour the Fire Spirit with a lantern like that one? You certainly don't have cold feet!

Reply that you did your best.

I was just joking with you. No need to get all hot under the collar! You should learn to lighten up. If you don't, you're sure to go down in flames... Come play with us instead!

Ask if they know where the Fire Spirit is.

Haha, who knows? Near or far, all is one, one is all... But where's the fire? You'll see him when he wants to see you. Until then, come and play! You'll see, the spirit plane is fantastic. And we haven't had a Twelvian to play with in a long time!

Turn down the invitation by claiming to have something more important to do.

More... important?... *swells and gives off a bright light* MORE IMPORTANT?! You're playing with fire! Nothing is more important than satisfying us. So, you're going to come and play with us, end of story! Hmm... I wonder what your backside will smell like once it's grilled medium well... Let's try it!

Snuff out the Will-o'-the-Wisps' fire.
Run away to protect your heroic backside.
  • Calm the Will-o'-the-Wisps
Dialog

Ouch... You've got quite the explosive temperament! And you're daring... We like that! In the heat of the action, we took you for a simple tourist. I suppose that's enough for now... What brings you here?

Say that it's your duty to ensure that the festival goes off without a hitch.

Ah, yes. We are eager for the festival to happen! You've got a green light from us. Work hard, little Twelvian. We'll be happy to play with you next time. However, if it isn't up to scratch, the region will be put to fire and the sword... or not. We'll see, hahaha!

Say good day to the Will-o'-the-Wisps and head towards the temple.
  • Report your conversation to Ozulan the lantern monk
  • He's inside the temple.
Dialog

The great spirit of Feudala lives in all of us. This temple is here to remind us that we are all sons and daughters of fire and that, with his heat, he lights our lives.

Say that the Daimya sent you.

Oh! Perfect. I've been waiting for you. I'm Ozulan, and I represent my order. I see that you've brought your... err... lantern. Good. Very good. You can put it there behind me.

Ask what the lanterns represent.

These lanterns form our link to the Fire Spirit. When this business is done, you may choose to take up residence in Feudala and bury yours so that it grows into a lantern-tree. But that is not a decision to take lightly. But I digress... did the ritual go well?

Mention your conversation with the Will-o'-the-Wisps and their threat.

What? That almost never happens... The Fire Spirit must be getting impatient if he's sending Will-o'-the-Wisps to warn you. That's awful... We're short on time and the Firefoux have ruined most of our preparations. Pandako Shazaki seems to be having trouble with those rascals. She is still only a child, could you go and see her?

Ask where to find them.

Despite her youth, she runs the paper workshop east of here. When you're done, I'll also need a new supply of traditional pastries. Stayfun Bonnawa should be able to provide them. He works in the capital. We are all counting on you.

Agree to help Ozulan.
  • Story: Ozulan asks us to help out Pandako Shazaki, she is still young but in charge of the paper workshop in Feudala. We will also need to get a new supply of traditional pastries from Stayfun Bonnawa.
Inside the building.
Dialog

Paper folding is an art that requires patience and precision. I fold swanes in my free time. I've made six hundred and forty-four so far! When I've made a thousand, my wish will come true.

Offer to help.

Have you come to help with the preparations for the festival? Perfect! The Firefoux have stolen the talismans I'd hung in the lantern-trees in the region. I wrote riddles on them in calligraphy and it would take me too long to redo them... Would you go teach those thieves a lesson and get back those talismans? And make sure they don't want to do it again?

Agree to help recover the talismans.
These have a 22% base drop rate from the Firefoux monsters in Feudala.
Dialog
Return the talismans.

You got them all?! Incredible! You are terrifyingly efficient. Our Daimya knows how to spot rare talent! Could you hang them back on the lantern-trees? Yes, I know. I'm sorry. I'd like to do it myself, but I absolutely must finish this paper structure for the Qilin dance during the festival... So, would you do it for me?

Agree to help again.
  • Hang the riddles on the lantern-trees
You'll find these lantern-trees at: [18,-33], [17,-35], [16,-36], [16,-34], [15,-34], [14,-34], [15,-33] and [16,-32].

That was the last talisman. Since you've completed your task, you should go and see Stayfun Bonnawa as planned.

He's inside the Chocolate Factory.
Dialog
Say that Ozulan's sent you.

I'm drowning in orders! Ozulan has ordered wanchiaos. They're balls of sticky rice stuffed with sesame or beans. With their round shape, they symbolise the unity of the Pandawa people and abundance.

Ask when they'll be ready.

I don't have enough ingredients anymore; I used everything for the first delivery. If the Firefoux hadn't devoured everything, the situation wouldn't be as dire... I'm sorry to have to ask but... Could you help me gather the ingredients and make them? The recipe is easy. I can teach it to you as we go along.

Agree to help Stayfun.
  • Use the chocolate pot on the right side of the Chocolate Factory to craft these.
  • 100 Sesame Seed, 100 Rice, 50 Bean and 20 Drinking Water to craft everything required.
  • Take the wanchiao to Ozulan in the lantern temple
Dialog
Show Ozulan the wanchiaos.

Thank you so much for all your efforts! I'll put these wanchiaos under guard this time so that it doesn't happen again. With all these delays, I'm worried about Pandako. I'm afraid she won't be able to get her work done on time. Could you go back and see her and make sure that everything's going as planned?

Go back and see Pandako.
  • Go back to the paper workshop
  • Protect the paper Qilin from the firefoux
  • Talk to one of the Firefoux to start a solo fight against 3 level 140 Firefouxes. You're accompanied by Paper Qilin, who must survive the fight. It doesn't move or attack. It has 8000 HP and -5% res.
  • Tip: It is recommended to attack Incendiary Gingerocket first as he can heal the other Firefouxes.
Dialog

Thank you for your help. I thought all my hard work was going to go up in smoke.

Say that you're relieved to have arrived in time.

This paper structure represents a Yokai called Qilin. Pandawas get inside it to dance and make it seem alive. But those Firefoux have really gone too far!

Ask if she has an idea about what comes next.

I know that Hibana, our pyrotechnician, is keeping a watch over the Fouxwork Factory, which they've taken over. He probably needs someone to make them want to stop causing trouble. You should go and see him. Me, I'll write to the Daimya asking for increased protection of the factory, so you don't do all that for nothing.

Head out for the Fouxwork Factory.
Dialog
Offer to help put an end to the Firefoux threat.

Ah, so you're the adventurer the Daimya sent, right? Your timing's perfect! The Firefoux have stolen my enchanted mortar, and without it I can't put the big finish on the pyrotechnics show at the end of the lantern festival. I absolutely have to get it back. Their leader is called Founoroshi. He's the master pyrofouxnician. Use this opportunity to intimidate him so his people will leave us alone.

Ask if he has a plan.

No, not a one! But you seem strong. Jump into the fray and you should be able to get the mortar back. We'll take care of the Firefoux for good once the reinforcements have arrived. That said, I hope you're not to attached to your hair and you'd better check your equipment carefully first... Things are likely to get a bit "explosive" in there...

Get ready before entering the Factory.
Story: Hinaba needs our help in clearing out the Fouxwork Factory, which has been taken over by Firefouxes. Their leader is called Founoroshi, we should talk to him after defeating him to make sure he will leave the people of Feudala alone.
  • Enter the Feudala dungeon
Note: Make sure not to leave the dungeon before talking to Founoroshi.
  • Order him to stop the sabotage.
Dialog
Order hi to stop the sabotage.

opens one eye What sabotage? We're just having some fun, you know. No need to get all hot and bothered over something so small...

Reply that they're harming the Pandawas.

Balderdash. Go ahead and call us pests while you're at it, too! We're merely doing our bit to entertain the Fire Spirit during the festival. After all, the Pandawas brought us food and made all these things so we could have fun!

Start to understand the misunderstanding.

Plus, you played "tag the Bow Meow" with a few Firefoux when we took these pieces of paper from the trees. Plus, they told me about the epic battle against a paper monster. You didn't go easy on them, huh, ha ha! But reassure me: you're competing in the best festival contest with us, right?

Ask what contest he's talking about.

What's that? The Will-o'-the-Wisps didn't tell you? The Fire Spirit will only show himself if the festival is to his liking, and only to the representatives of the people who entertained him the best. We've been doing all this to liven up the region. We thought you knew...

Say that that doesn't change anything and you must recover the mortar.

flinches at your threatening look Yes, yes, fine... I'll give it to you. But still, I'd invite you strongly to think about which people deserves to use this mortar the most. We need it, too, to call the Great Flaming One to us.

Ask why choose the Firefoux.

I don't get Pandawa traditions. It seems like they celebrate the vision they have of the Great Flaming One, rather than the Great Flaming One himself. We Firefoux are one with him. The very essence of fire is to be alive and unpredictable, like Will-o'-the-Wisps! Our way of life is the way it is so we can live in harmony with them. Reproaching us for that is like being surprised that fire burns! Think about it before you favour the wrong side.

Think about what he said and put and end to the whole business.

  • Story: Founoroshi tells us that the Firefouxes were merely trying to entertain the Fire Spirit, not sabotage the whole festival. They have been behaving the way they have because been trying to liven up the region. He gives us the option of choosing the side of the Firefoux over the Pandawas because they are more 'at one' with the 'Great Flaming One' known as the Fire Spirit. We can choose ourselves whether or not we agree more with the Firefoux or the Pandawas way of doing things.
  • Decide to meet the Fire Spirit with Ozulan or Founoroshi
Talk to Founoroshi again or talk to Ozulan at [15,-35]. It doesn't make much of a difference, you just decide which 'side' you want to be on while talking to the Fire Spirit.
Dialog
Say that you've recovered the mortar.

Perfect. We can never thank you enough for everything you've done for us! It's time to call the Fire Spirit and begin the festival. Hinaba gave me the fouxworks that he was able to take from the factory. Let's meet in front of the sanctuary for the big finish.

Join Ozulan at the designated spot.
Go to [17,-36] and use the Enchanted Mortar in your quest inventory.
  • Go to the fire sanctuary to meet the spirit
Head through the cave.
  • Talk to Fire Spirit
Dialog

All are one, one is all, we are here together again.

Bow respectfully before the Fire Spirit.

We know you, yes... We have already seen you. All? No, only some. Was it interesting? Oh, yes, very amusing, a bit daring but reliable! Very well, in that case, we welcome you to this sanctuary. Savour the opportunity we're giving you to admire our greatness!

Stay silent throughout the spirit's strange monologue.

Well? Of course, we love being in the limelight, but we also appreciate the presence of a true conversation partner. Yes, it's true! Where have you left your wit? You spoke so cleverly before...

Realise that he is, in fact, the collective consciousness of all the Will-o'-the-Wisps of Feudala.
We can see by the light in your eyes that you've understood! Indeed, we are the Fire Spirit, so many individuals forming a majestic whole.

Of course, it is sometimes tiresome to be so many in one, and that's why playing tricks on you is so exciting! Exactly! You have so many different feelings and experiences, your life is as short as a candle flame. That's what makes you so lively and endearing.

Retort, slightly annoyed, that you aren't playthings.

the tree begins to burn, emitting a light so bright it forces you to squint, and a heat so intense your throat is instantly dry IMPUDENT!

Feel the air around you throb and stagged back a few steps under the crushing heat coming from the spirit.

the heat lessens rapidly when he sees you falter You're hurting that Twelvian, don't you think? It's your fault, you lost your cool... You know I'm never cool... Don't you think he might d... No, of course n... But what if that's what's happening? Shouldn't we... Stupid, stupid, all this worrying about a mere mortal...

Feel relief as the spirit's animosity seems to wane.

You're always... Oh yeah? What about you... the cacophony of mingled voices prevents you from understanding the rest

Interject that you're fine.

the hubbub continues for a few minutes SILENCE! We can't hear what anyone's saying! The Twelvian just said everything's fine. Is that so? Yeah. What makes you think it's not? all eyes turn to you

State once again that you're fine.

Good. We have watched you, mortal... Yes. More than anyone, you've proven your desire to satisfy us, as well as the Firefoux and Pandawas who helped you with your task. In addition, it was very amusing to watch you playing a game whose rules you did not know. Such selflessness deserves a reward. Tell us what you desire, Twelvian.

Hesitate briefly then ask for a fragment of their power.

Clearly you fear nothing... That is exactly what we expected of you! You were right, this Twelvian is surprising... So be it. the tree on which the spirit is resting lights up and a glowing claw floats over to you

Move your hand towards the fire claw.

Here is the power of fire. Use it wisely and light up the world like you lit up Feudala with your enthusiasm for pleasing us! Now go. We have a festival to enjoy.

Stammer your thanks and bow.
Story: The Fire Spirit turns out to consist of hundreds of little flames. After some strange dialogue, the Fire Spirit rewards us with the fire claw.
  • Check in with Ozulan
Dialog
Mention meeting the spirit.

The spirit gave you a gift! That has never happened before, or at least I've never read about it happening in any of my history books. What presence! Ah, it's entirely thanks to you that I was able to set eyes on such a creature. My faith is even stronger now. Thank you! The Daimya must be waiting for you. I wish you good luck in the rest of your adventures.

Say goodbye to the monk.
He'll either be on the same map, or back at [15,-35] depending on which option you chose earlier.
Dialog
Say that you have the Fire Claw in your possession.

So, you were successful. Once again, you honour my trust in you, (player name). So, what is the Fire Spirit like? It seems you are the only one who has seen his true form.

Mention your interview with the spirit.

I see... They were under our noses from the start... Well, at least we now know what to expect. You only have one more elemental claw to obtain. But for now, go and get some well-deserved rest!

Thank the Daimya and leave.
Say that you'll rest later and ask about the Wind Spirit.

The Wind Spirit is the incarnation of calm and serenity. He is very fond of freedom and constantly seeks to maintain balance. Talking about him reminds me that we haven't heard from him in quite some time. I know he's not overly fond of company, but his silence is starting to worry me.

Say that you would like to meet him.

I don't know if he will answer your call, but it's worth a try. It would be reassuring to know that he hasn't completely turned away from what's happening of the World of Twelve. If you could, try to convince him to show himself more often, that would be perfect.

Ask how to get him to show himself.

Perhaps an offering could entice him to return. The call of an illustrious stranger may be intriguing enough that he'll deign to make the trip. He loves fruit, so a mix of different types would do nicely. When you've found an appropriate offering, go and place it on Aerdala Summit and wait patiently however long it takes.

Say thank you and head out.
