Mechanics[]
Unlike most dungeons, Lord Crow's Library does not consist of a set of rooms in a fixed order. It is instead composed of sixteen rooms in a 4x4 grid. To reach the boss room, you must find and defeat Capsaaloock, who is located in one of the rooms at random.
Capsaaloock is a global spawn - there is only one in the dungeon at a time, and it's located in the same place for all players. Once a fight against it has started, it will respawn in a random location, possibly in the same room as before (usually in several seconds).
You start in room 1. To find Capsaaloock, speak to the NPC Virgil, who will narrow down its location to one of the four quadrants of the maze (a group of four rooms). You can navigate the maze by defeating groups of monsters. Each room has two groups:
- Fighting Well-Read Crowfox groups will move you one room right
- Fighting Well-Read Drinker groups will move you one room down
The maze wraps (e.g. in room 16, fighting the Well-Read Crowfox group will send you to room 13 on the left, while fighting the Well-Read Drinker group will send you to room 4 at the top).
- Let's say Virgil gives you this hint:
Dialog |
---|
Last time I saw Capsaaloock, he was hiding in the eleventh room, or maybe in the twelfth one, or was it in the fifteenth? or the sixteenth?... Well, I don't remember. |
- Starting from room 1, you would fight 2 Well-Read Crowfox groups and 2 Well-Read Drinker groups (in any order) to arrive in room 11.
- If Capsaaloock is there, you're in luck. If not, you can either check room 12 (by fighting the Well-Read Crowfox group), or room 15 (by fighting the Well-Read Drinker group).
- Supposing you go to room 12 - if it doesn't contain Capsaaloock, you'd then go to room 16 by fighting the Well-Read Drinker group.
- If Capsaaloock isn't there either, that means it must be in room 15. You can't move left, so you will have to fight three Well-Read Crowfox groups in a row, taking you through rooms 13, 14, and then into 15.
Since you can only move right and down, you can check 3 out of the 4 possible rooms on your first try, so there's a 25% chance you'll have to do a full loop around to check the last one. It's also possible that other players will find Capsaaloock before you, causing it to spawn in a new location. Make sure to check with Virgil in every room.
There is no way to return to the starting room, other than by leaving the dungeon and starting over with a new key.
Note: the monsters in the dungeon now consist of renamed versions of the old monsters (with the prefix "Well-Read"). These monsters are identical to their counterparts outside the dungeon, except that they give no experience or drops.
