Talk to Ghostly Priest at [-33,33] in Brakmar City Walls.
Dialog

So many young people have fallen, victims of men's madness. Centuries have passed, and yet, history repeats itself over and over again. Will they never learn?

Find out more about him.

In my lifetime, I was a preacher. I accompanied the Brakmarian army on its movements, and I taught its soldiers the values of our city. I was convinced that the Twelvians needed to free themselves of the barriers imposed by their divinity, if they wanted to fully flourish.

Keep listening.

Bonta symbolised the barrier erected by the gods' devotees, and I thought that by making its walls crumble, we would free ourselves of our chains. I didn't know that in doing so, we were only making them stronger.

Keep listening.

Now we're prisoners of our own torments. The gods refuse to reincarnate some people. For others, there's still a task to be accomplished, sins to be atoned for, or maybe something else?

Sympathise.

Maybe you can help us appease the souls of the deceased so as to stop them from becoming ghosts?

Find out more.

Every year, we go to the cemetery for the ceremony to honour soldiers who died in war, no matter what their side or beliefs. The Chafers have the annoying habit of playing killjoy, and I'd like it if you came with us to keep them away from the ceremony.

Accept.

I'll show you where the ceremony will take place; you'll just need to trust your sense of direction and evade the belligerent Chafers.

Leave them to their torment.

Step 1: More Torched[]

You must make sure that nothing disturbs a ceremony honouring soldiers who've fallen in combat.
  • Find the map: Ceremonial site  [-10,38]
Dialog

Many Brakmarian soldiers are buried here, and in some cases, the bodies were so mixed up that we no longer knew which side they fought for. If some Chafers should ever come and bother us, I'm counting on you to stop them. It's not the Panty Party around here!

Get into position.

Let us pay homage to the victims of megalomania. Soldiers, in formation!

Keep on the lookout

In a square!

Keep on the lookout

In a T-shape!

Notice a group of Chafers arriving.

In an L-shape!

Address the Chafers.
  • Defeat the Chafer killjoys  [-10,38]
Dialog

Clack click!

Put an end to any and all desires to disturb the ceremony. (starts a fight)

The fight is against 1 Elite Killjoy, 1 Killjoy Archer, 1 Killjoy Draugr, and 1 Killjoy Lancer (renamed versions of Elite Chafer, Chafer Archer, Draugur Chafer, and Chafer Lancer respectively).
Other characters and Sidekicks can join the fight and update the quest if they're on the same step.
You will drop 1 Killjoy Bone.
Dialog

Thank you for making sure this ceremony could take place without incident. Now we're going to return to Brakmar; we're no longer welcome here.

Ask why the ghosts no longer haunt the ceremony.

After a long conflict with the Chafers, we've had enough, and have decided to leave this place rather than putting up with their eggheads for centuries to come. Since we were unable to stray far from the dark city, we settled in nearby.

Find out more.

This dissent between the ghosts and the Chafers originates from events that occurred in the mid-sixth century. To find out more, you'll need to ask Karl Groucho. Unfortunately, the repressive, bloodthirsty companies of Brakmar arrested him for disturbing the peace.

Head to the Brakmarian Militia.
  • Find the map: Magmatic jails  [-25,33]
Inside the Brakmar Militia building, go down three flights of stairs to find the jails, then one map to the left.
Dialog

Shameful! Where's freedom of expression? Ghosts have the right to rest in peace!

Discuss the conflict between the ghosts and the Chafers.

In case you hadn't noticed, I've got a more pressing matter to attend to. The stupid militia locked me up here to prevent me from expressing my opinion and silence my demands.

Wonder why he doesn't just slip through the bars.

Do you think I'm some kind of idiot? Don't you think I've tried? They've surely set up some magical protection, a containment field – or something like that – to prevent spectres from fleeing, ever since Domen's escape.

Offer to help them get away in exchange for information.

Alright, you leave me no choice. As soon as I get out of here, I'll tell you what you want to know. Give the guardian a beer; that'll distract him so you can get me out of here.

Prepare the escape.
The correct response depends on your alignment.
Dialog

It's so hot here...

Hold out a beer.

I hope it's not poisoned. I wouldn't want to die in excruciating agony.

Offer to take over. <- Brakmarian
Claim that you saw a Bontarian commando unit in the prison. <- Bontarian
Suggest going for a rest by handing over a Purse of 500 Kamas. <- Neutral

Dialog
Ask how to dissipate the restraint field.

I have no idea; I'm not a magician. Ask this Chafer; he's not as stupid as he looks.

Dialog

Brakmarians don't like free spirits and dissension in their army's ranks.

Find out why they were imprisoned.

I campaign for Chafers' rights, and that doesn't sit well with the authorities.

Admit that you didn't know there were rights for Chafers.

that's exactly why I campaign. The Chafers are forcefully enlisted into the Brakmarian army to serve as front-line cannon fodder, and make us work our fingers to the bone. We don't have the right to life insurance or a retirement plan, because we're already dead. Same principle for risk premiums: they pass us by. It's outrageous!

Leave him to think in his corner.
Ask how to remove the restraint field.

I'll tell you how to do it, on the condition that you get me out of this cell.

Accept.

There must be quite a simple mechanism to raise the forcefield. Look for a switch, a rune to activate, or a button to press; it must be simple enough to activate, even for these stupid militiaman.

Search.
  • Look for the mechanism  [-25,33]
Go one map to the right and click on the skull panel.
More Torched Skull Panel
Return to the left map.
Dialog
Suggest calming down.

I'll calm down once I've won the case!

Explain how to raise the restraint field, and order them to keep their word.

I'll make it quick: in the mid-sixth century, part of the Bontarian army, headed by general Ilyzaelle, led a harsh campaign of repression against the inhabitants of the Cemetery of the Tortured.

Keep listening.

Many ghosts, vampires and Chafers were reduced to ashes, their tombs desecrated and their remains scattered. It's all Archbishop Erzal's fault. If he hadn't hidden in the cemetery, the army would have spared us.

Find out more.

When Erzal came back in the form of a Chafer, on the few occasions that he came by the cemetery, he helped his kind multiply, to the detriment of the tormented souls of ghosts and lineages of blood suckers, several of which are no more.

Keep listening.

Instead of making amends, the Chafers decided to grandiosely prepare the definitive return of the one who caused so much harm to the permanent residents of the cemetery. Unable to stand such an affront, we ghosts preferred to leave the cemetery rather than continuing to haunt a place that had changed beyond all recognition.

Say thank you for this explanation.
