Obtaining

Talk to Poochan at [26,-29].

Dialog

You future husband of me? No, no you. You too weak. You stink. And you ugly. You get out of sight of Poochan. To be dumbfounded to see a Bow Meow talk this way. You stupid. This power of springs Juice-Sane-Ki-Oak. Can turn Poochan into Bow Meow to find future husband. Poochan not find. You want to help me? Accept. You nice. You not move. Poochan turn back to normal. You not looking at me naked or Poochan kill servant. Look away (or almost). You not understand, you not just close eyes, you away from here or me not change.

Step 1: Who's afraid of the Big Bad Bow Meow?

Poochan is looking for her future husband but the only clues she has are that he lives in Pandala and is scared of Bow Meows. The easiest thing to do would be to turn yourself into a Bow Meow and jump on everyone, wouldn't it?

• Talk to Poochan

• You must leave and re-enter the map for Poochan to change appearance and be able to talk to you.

Dialog
Poochan feel better. You turn. Take it. Drink a bit of Bow Meow source and look for person scared of you. If you find, you tell Poochan. Take the potion and drink it.

You will receive 1 Bow Meow Curse (you will lose it if you start a fight).

Step 2: Informal Agreement

Here, the tradition tells that the father decides who his son or his daughter will marry. You just have to persuade the father to let his son go. You will have to do your best to convince him.

Is it his hair? I'm sorry but my son's already engaged to the Dojo owner's daughter. I could never let him go again for any less than 100,000 kamas. Leave. However... you seem to be quite in love with him and that matters a lot to me. If you only knew how much I love my son! You can have him for 50,000! Give 50,000 Kamas. Leave. And even, I can feel he'll find real happiness with someone like you... 25,000 would do! Deal! Give 25,000 Kamas. Leave. This engagement was not really serious anyway... with 5,000 Kamas we'd have a deal. Give 5,000 Kamas. Leave. In the end, how much are you ready to put in for my son? Note: always choose "Leave" dialogue option instead of "Give X Kamas" in order to proceed with the dialogues and the quest. If you choose the options to give kamas you don't actually lose the kamas but the quest won't update.

Step 3: Dento Family Conquest

In order to free Lanma from his duties, you will have to break off his engagement to a young lady in the Dento family.

Hello noble adventurer! Sli Dento bows before you. How may I help you? Cancel his daughter Akane's engagement. I beg your pardon? Explain Heitit's promise. HEEIIITIITT! *Breathes deeply* This must be some kind of mistake. I can't break off my poor daughter's engagement or she'll never find anyone to marry. Tell me you understand! Offer your hand in marriage. Offer Poochan's hand in marriage. Huh... What? You... You know my daughter? And you are.... hum... well, anything can happen here in Pandala, so... What the heck.... Just go see her and she can decide!

• Go up the ladder to the second floor

WHAT? BREAK UP MY MARRIAGE? TO MARRY WHO?! Listen to me carefully, you little McSheth skidmark... NO WAY! Over my dead body! Over your dead body it is, then! What? You want me to... Oh! A challenge! Alright! I'm going to squash you and give your leftovers to the Pandawa that sent you. And then I'll drown her in her own spring! Meet me at the Dojo! Accept the challenge.

Talk to Goriya, you will start a fight against 1 Goriya and 1 Timouss.

Dialog

Anyone who challenges Akane has to take on champions Timouss and Goriya. If you win, Lanma will be freed from his engagements. If you lose... well, that'll teach you to think twice before you go against the wishes of a Dento lady! Show how surprised you are to meet a talking Young Wild Boar. I'm not really a Young Wild Boar, I just had a sip of the water from the magic springs! You should never trust appearances here on Pandala Island... Ask if Lanma is a real Lenald. Do you really think Akane would want to marry a short, stumpy, hairy dwarf like him? Let's cut the chitchat and get to work! Get ready to fight.

Talking to Poochan now gives you the option to turn into a Bow Meow (Bow Meow Curse), a Bwak (Bwak Transformation), or a Young Wild Boar (Young Wild Boar Transformation) for 2,000 Kamas. Transformation only lasts until your next battle. You are then able to return to [26,-29] and transform again if you so desire.

Trivia

The characters in this quest are named after characters in Ranma 1/2. Poochan is Shampoo (a girl who is cursed to turn into a cat and speaks broken Chinese), Lanma Metoassa is Ranma Saotome (who is also terrified of cats), Gempa is Genma (Ranma's father, who is cursed to turn into a panda), Akane Dento is Akane Tendo (who Ranma is betrothed to, even though neither really wants to be), Goriya is Ryouga (Ranma's rival, whose curse turns him into a pig), and Timouss is Mousse (Shampoo's childhood friend who is madly in love with her, who is cursed to turn into a duck).

The title of the quest, "Strange Springs" and the Juice-Sane-Ki-Oak spring that Poochan uses to turn herself and you into a Bow Meow, both refer to the Jusenkyo springs in Ranma 1/2 that curse people with the form of whoever or whatever had drowned in that spring.

A Goriya is also a boomerang-throwing enemy in many of the Legend of Zelda games, but that similarity is probably a coincidence.
