Take Root is a quest.

Obtaining[]

Talk to Silvosse at [-11,13] after completing Crobak on a Wire.
Dialog

You've got one more piece of amber to discover, if I'm not mistaken. Plantalan spirit amber.

Confirm.

Forests have always been places of communion between Twelvians and spirits, but these spirits are quick to anger. You'll have to meditate to placate them. May you forge ties that have been broken time and again, so that hope may be reborn like a sapling after a long winter.

Promise to do your best and set off for Plantala.

Step 1: Take Root[]

The last piece of amber will be spiritual or nothing at all. Plantala Forest has no shortage of spirits who'll be sensitive to your situation... or in some cases, just plain sensitive.
  • Find a good place to meditate in Plantala Forest
[24,-35], the northmost map.
  • Meditate near the spiritual spring without getting distracted  [24,-35]
Click on the panda-shaped rock. This will summon several Irritating Moskito NPCs. Speak to one to start a fight.
The fight consists of 3 waves of Irritating Moskito. There are 4 initially, then two more spawn on turn 3, and another two on turn 6. The moskitos are Lvl. 110 with 2100 HP (1575 HP for the ones that spawn as part of the waves). They can remove your AP at range and steal HP from up close, as well as permanently gain MP over time. They do around 200 damage per turn.
Other characters and Sidekicks can join the fight, and will update their quest if they're on the same step.
After the fight, click the panda stone again to make Serene Spirit appear.
  • Talk to the serene spirit  [24,-35]
Dialog

An adventurer trying to attain inner peace... Such a rarity is enough to attract our attention.

Greet the plantala.

We saw many of your kind come and go when Sesame guarded the entrance to the sacred cavern. Very few would take the time to contemplate the splendours of nature. They didn't come for that.
Do you know why you are here?

Admit that you're not entirely sure.

The amber you need does not exist in this world. It lies elsewhere, everywhere and nowhere, both as a memory and hope.

Ask for a hint as to where to find it.

Follow the light. It will guide you.

Turn towards the glowing orb.
A Golden Light appears on the same map.
  • Follow the golden light
Stand next to the Golden Light, click on it, and choose 'Inspect'.
Dialog

*shines with warm and soothing brightness*

Step closer.
The light will disappear. You will need to talk to it again on the map [24,-33], then [25,-31], standing next to it each time.
  • Enter the Bamboo Grove to find the light  [26,-30]
Enter Damadrya's Bamboo Grove dungeon.
  • Defeat 1 Damadrya in a single fight  [26,-30]
Make sure to speak to Damadrya before leaving the dungeon ("Gradually regain your composure after the frenzy of combat.").
Dialog

Bamboo has for too long bent under the Twelvians' yoke... That time has passed. Wood becomes armour and breaks axes. The forest is reclaiming its due.

Gradually regain your composure after the frenzy of combat.

Strength and savagery are intertwined with wisdom and tranquillity. Life and death, roots and peaks... The Wukin and the Wukang. All exist as one.

Glimpse the ambivalence of reality.

The lumberjacks haven't always been our enemies. There was a time when they respected the sylvan folk and their land...
Wapishikami can remember a friend of the Plantalas. A Pandawa born in the rain. He was buried far from here. Much too far. Find him and bring him home. He will give you what you seek.

Say that you'll do your best.

*gives you a strange look*
Your breath mixes with that of Terrakourial... You are a tree that hides a forest. Make sure you don't lose your way, nor lie to yourself.

Turn to the light once more.
The Golden Light appears again.
  • Dive into the light  [26,-30]
Stand next to Golden Light and Inspect it again.
Dialog

*shines with warm and soothing brightness*

Step into the light.
You are teleported to [-13,-54] in the Eltneg Wood.
  • Find the Pandawan lumberjack's grave
[-14,-59]
  • Stop the Trools from desecrating the grave  [-14,-59]
Talk to one of the Defiler Trool, Necrophagous Trooll, or Sacrilegious Trool.
Dialog

*pounds the stele to break it*

Notice the Pandalan characters and order the Trools to respect this place.

MGRRRAR! KIIIIIILLL!

Send all three monsters to Externam. (starts a fight)

Retreat while waiting for reinforcements.
A fight starts against 1 Defiler Trool (renamed Trooligark with 3100 HP), 1 Necrophagous Trooll (renamed Troologram with 3200 HP), and 1 Sacrilegious Trool (renamed Troolewd with 3300 HP), all Lvl. 110.
Other characters and Sidekicks can join the fight, and will update their quests if they've selected the "Retreat while waiting for reinforcements" option (or have started the fight themselves and lost).
  • Talk to the uprooted ghost  [-14,-59]
Talk to the Uprooted Ghost who appeared on the map.
Dialog

Thank you for what you did... I'd rather my remains were not strewn everywhere by Trools. I feel bad enough already.

Admit that you don't know what the dead feel.

Emotions and memories feed our souls, while regrets starve us.

Say that you're here to take him home.

Oh... really? Returning to my native land and becoming one with it... I had lost hope that it would ever happen.

Ask permission to exhume his body.

I will make it easier for you. I wasn't like other Pandawas. It wasn't blood that ran through my veins, but sap. There are no bones in my grave.
I know you will choose the best place for me.

See a bamboo shoot emerge from the ground.
  • Take the bamboo shoot and plant it near the spiritual spring  [24,-35]
Stand next to the Bamboo Shoot NPC that appeared and click "Inspect" on it.
Dialog

*waits patiently*

Step closer.

*waits patiently*

Delicately take the little shoot to bring it to Pandala.
You receive 1 Pandawa Sprout.
  • Say goodbye to the re-emerging soul  [24,-35]
Return to [24,-35] and click on the panda-shaped stone. Talk to the Re-Emerging Soul who appears.
Dialog

I hear the forest voices... I've returned home!

Sense the Pandawa's happiness.

I will grow here, in the shade, protected by the Plantalas. Thank you very much. Thanks to you, a new life is starting.

Say that you're happy to have helped.

The Golden Light appears again.

The spirits are pleased. I feel you are also finding your way... Take the light with you.

See the Pandawa reach out to the golden sphere.

*transforms the glowing orb then hands it to you smiling*
I will never forget you, #1.

Say goodbye to the Pandawa and take the piece of spirit amber.
You receive 1 Spirit Amber.
  • Use the ochre ring's power to purify the spirit amber
Equip the Ochre Ring again in one of your ring slots, then double-click the Spirit Amber in your quest inventory.
You lose 1 Spirit Amber and receive 1 Purified Yellow Amber.
  • Talk to the serene spirit before leaving Plantala  [24,-35]
Talk to Serene Spirit on the same map.
Dialog

The foliage shivers in the wind... We grow more anxious. The ochre dragon's absence weighs more heavily on our minds.

Say that you intend to renew Terrakourial's vow using the three pieces of amber.
Continue talking to Serene Spirit to start the next quest, Where There's Smoke....
