The Mean Ol' Witch of the East is a quest.

Obtaining[]

Talk to Meriana at [-6, -3] in Nauseating Swamps.
Dialog
Show the Totem of the South.

It's still intact, just like I thought. My power is still sealed within it... I just hope it's the same for the other totems.

Ask which totem you should get next.

Out of the Four of us, the Guardian of the East was the most ambitious, as well as the most likely to bend the rules of strict morality when she was in a fix. She paid for her unscrupulousness and cruelty with her life, but she's still with us in the World of Twelve. You'd better not wait too long before you dig up her totem; she really didn't see eye to eye with Furye, and she might try to stick a spanner in the works.

Keep listening.

You must set your sights on Frigost Island and travel to Alma's Cradle to find Badmorva. The urn containing her ashes has to be located somewhere along the shore. Speak to the spectre of the sorceress to get her Mark. She'll certainly ask for something in return; Badmorva was never the witch to do something for nothing.>

Continue to listen.

<Once you have the Mark, look for the Altar of the East. You may want to leave Amakna and cross the Asse Sea in the direction of the rising sun. By the way, you will need Viti's blessing to have any chance of finding the Totem of the East.

Head for Alma's Cradle.

Step 1: The Mean Ol' Witch of the East[]

After your stroll through Amakna, a little excursion on Frigost ought to be a nice change. Just hope the sorceress Badmorva is cooperative...without her help you won't be able to unearth the totem in the east.
  • Find Badmorva's ashes on the shore of the Alma's Cradle.
Click the barrel at [-54, -76]. (Players must have first beaten The Royal Pingwin's Excavation and Royal Mastogob's Greenhouse to gain Access to Alma's Cradle zone).
Dialog

You dare challenge meeeee? You are not warriors! You're Lousy Pigs! Lousy Piiiigs, all of you! Curse you all! *gestures wildly at the air in front of her*

Greet her and ask for her Mark.

abruptly stops gesticulating That is a rather unusual request... Who sent you? Egh the Necromancer? Archbishop Erzal? Fladnag the Yerg?

Reply that you were sent by Meriana, former Guardian of the South.

Well, bless my soul and call me Susan! That old battleaxe hasn't jacked it all in yet? Some people really do hang on to the bitter end, don't they... The old bat'll outlive us all, ha ha ha! And what does Meriana want with my Mark? I advise you not to tell any tall tales, my darling little Tofu-brain, or I'll set a curse on you so strong your descendants will still be whimpering generations hence.

Reply that it's none of her beeswax.
Say that you need to dig up the Totem of the East.
Claim you're one of her admirers and that you are dying to get her autograph.

Well, well... It has indeed been quite some time since the original pact was broken. What'll you do with this old statuette? Could you perhaps be wanting to conjure up a spirit?

Reply that it's a possibility, but remain vague.
Say you want to save Furye's soul.

Hmph. I've got no quarrel with Meriana, and after all, that totem's just a relic of a far-distant past that's got zilch to do with me anymore. You want my Witch's Mark? Spread terror among the ghosts of Alma's Cradle, and I'll give it to you. Those pirates need reminding that I'm the one who rules this land, and not their bogus idiot of a captain.

Go and beat up the ghosts who haunt the place.

Dialog
Reply that it's none of her beeswax.

Oh yeah? In that case, you can consider this conversation terminated... I haven't got time for Lousy Pigs like you.

Wander off, groaning.
Dialog
Claim you're one of her admirers and thjat you are dying to get her autograph.

You're lying! Witches don't have admirers, they just have enemies and slaves!

Attack the sorceress to be sure she doesn't put a curse on you.
Apologise and say that you need to dig up the Totem of the East.
Dialog

Really? What an excellent undertaking! Here, take my Mark. *holds her hand out to you*

Take Badmorva's hand. (Will send you to the Lousy Pig Plain and transform you into a Lousy Pig for one fight.)

Dialog
Say you've been checking out the pirates.

Good. In the future, they'll think twice before questioning my orders. I can neither kill them or curse them, so sometimes I have trouble making them toe the line. You wanted my mark, didn't you? Take it and get lost. If you lurk about here too long, I might give in to the urge to curse you.

Take the Mark and go.
You have received 1 'Badmorva's Mark'.
  • Find the East Alter
Go to [27, -30].
  • Get Vinnie's blessing
Dialog

Viti, Lord of the Rising Sun, pardon my sins and the errant ways of my people. They know not what they do.

Say good day.

Hail to thee, adventurer. Repent and join in my prayers. The god of Celestial Awakening is not easy to satisfy, and his ire can be devastating. But if you have a pure heart, you have a chance of finding redemption.

Say that you need Viti's blessing to find a magic totem.

We all would wish to receive such a blessing. Kneel down and pray. After several years have run their course, Viti will hear your prayer... perhaps. He is very busy, you see.

Reply that it's pretty urgent.

In that case, I suggest another approach. Prove your faith to Viti. Trounce dungeon keepers while brandishing his idols. If you win these battles, you'll receive the blessing you seek as a reward.

Keep listening.

But it's not enough to merely beat your opponents – your victories must be clear and resounding. The raging clamour of your battles must be heard all the way to Ingloriom! I've heard that a Huppermage who's an idol specialist has set up shop near the Amakna church. I'm sure she'll be able to help you create the idols you'll need for these feats.

Say that you'll return soon as the conquering hero and leave.

You'll need to finish the quest Vini's Blessing to continue on to the next step.
You have received 1 'Viti's Blessing'.
The place where the Totem of the East is buried appears clearly in your mind.
  • Unearth the Totem of the East.
Got to [11, -13]
  • Equip Terra Clan Shovel
Click on interactive stone
You have received 1 'Totem of the East'.
You have lost 1 'Viti's Blessing'.
You have lost 1 'Badmorva's Mark'.
Dialog
Show the Totem of the East.

I was afraid Badmorva wouldn't cooperate... I hope she didn't demand too much of you. Now then, if you are ready to unearth the next totem, the Totem of the North, you'll need Mama Ayuto's sign. Ayuto's a friend, so she'll be happy to give you her Mark.

Keep listening.

As for the Altar of the North, I should think it would lie on Frigost... The god Thomahon likes the cold, and Frigost is nothing if not that. You'll have need of his blessing if you're to find the place where the totem lies buried.

Leave for the Imp Village.
